Can I reverse damage to silk material done by harsh detergents?

I accidently washed a sheer silk dress with normal detergent and it has changed the feel of the fabric. Is there anyway to restore it to its former glory?|||I've done the same thing and I couldn't resore it. After I throw it away someone told me that I should have taken it to the dry cleaners and that they might have been able to sort it out... Hope this helps??
