What is the Difference Between Silk and Satin?

I am thinking of getting some new sheets and saw some silk and some satin and was thinking what is the diffference?|||silk is shiney. satin is dull. satin is softer than silk. if youre wanting bed sheets silk will stick to you if you sweat.|||Silk comes from silkworms and I believe satin is a synthetic fabric.|||silk is a natural fiber, satin is a synthetic material.|||Satin is a man-made product. Silk is made from the results of silk worms chewing. Chances are, the sheets are not real silk.|||to correct everyone-silk is indeed from a silkworm, its a natural fiber that can be woven or knit into fabric for blouses, pants, sheets, table linens, etc. It can have an organic smell if woven in the 'raw' form like for mens pants.

Satin is acutally a type of weave that creates a shiny surface weather it is woven in silk, polyseter, cotton or any other fiber that is used to weave fabric. Its a complicated weave, its woven with a warp and fill yarns to create a base, then thin threads of yarn, float across at a slight diagonal to fill in the area over the crisscross weave, to create a finish, called satin, on the fabric. Its shiny; the shiner the yarn-the shiner the fabric's finish. Syntheic yarns seem to reflect more light than natural fibers, like silk %26amp; cotton yarns.

Now, to answer your question - most satin sheets are polyester, which is synthic, it causes static cling..I hate them for sheets or pj's. Silk will have a little static and will be very expensive. Some cotton sheets that are in a higher thread count, 400+ will feel like silk, cost less and be easier to maintain. Ive seen the softest, softest cotton sheets for $1500 a set(fitted, flat, 2 pillow cases)....nice sheets man...
