Can you put nails in silk wallpaper without damaging the wall covering material?

I just bought a house. Two rooms have silk wallpaper. I noticed the former owners did not have any nail holes in those walls whatsoever. I wonder if the silk would run or be ruined if I tried to hang a picture on those walls. Does anyone have silk wall coverings on your wall? Can you hang pictures? If so, what did you use to hang them with?|||Any hole, in anything, is "damage". Just use the proper size nail. It's your wall!
