What, exactly, is the silk road, and who is Marco Polo?

I have a homework assignment, and all the articles I find are too in-depth for me to comprehend. Can someone give me a brief description of Marco Polo and the Silk Road?|||the silk road was a trade route from China to Europe, Marco Polo was a merchant who travelled to China from Italy via the silk road. more information can be found by using a search engine and the internet.|||The silk road was a series of routes covering more than 4,000 miles in Ancient China. It began in northern China and went west along the Great Wall of China. It was a great trade route for the ancient Chinese.





Marco Polo (1254-1324), is probably the most famous Westerner traveled on the Silk Road. He excelled all the other travelers in his determination, his writing, and his influence. His journey through Asia lasted 24 years. He reached further than any of his predecessors, beyond Mongolia to China. He became a confidant of Kublai Khan (1214-1294). He traveled the whole of China and returned to tell the tale, which became the greatest travelogue.|||The Silk Road was a series of interconnecting ancient trade routes between Asia and Europe. Silk was the primary export of Asia back then - hence the catchy name.
